ARTIST STATEMENT

When I was a child, visiting my grandparents in the country, they would go to bed early. As the unfamiliar silence in the house kept me awake, I would look at books piled up next to my bed. Munch, Van Gogh and Kirchner fascinated me and I looked at their paintings until I fell asleep over them. A discovery that did not make it easy for my grandmother and her dog to wake me up in the morning.

I find my ideas by observing, reading, listening to music. I like how songs accompany the creation of an artwork and sometimes influence the drawing. But mostly it is the material itself from which the impulses come. Working on wood and stone surfaces is not only beautiful, but also always holds surprises. And I like to wonder about my picture.
